Enjoyed reading your analysis, Anna. It is especially valuable because it helps to look in the mirror and consider a change in attitude. Why do I read (and contribute to) Medium in the first place? Am I a junky? (Absolutely.)

I would say I am a 1-2-3-6-8 member. For the fun of learning (8 and 2), connecting (3) and seriously trying to add value(6), I lurk (1), choose authors and subjects I like because they teach me, instruct me or inspire me (3 and 6). I only ‘like’ a post when I am able to write a comment and I only comment when I think I can add a little bit of value. I certainly am addicted to learning. Medium is a soft drug shop. Try to focus on satire (Allan Ishac! Steven Rouach!).

Perhaps I must add I am Dutch, 70 and retired, not needing a new profession or job. I was raised by my parents and teachers to be curious and eager to understand life, already have a passion that comes first (making music).

I love writing because I only know what I think when I read what I wrote, and discovered I enjoy writing in English (not my mother tongue at all). A-typical in many ways.
