Forgive me if I am too serious sometimes, but I have something important to share, Allan and the Allanites.
The Russian puppet player Vasili Gontsjarov, forced by Putin to go underground with his satirical show, says in an interview*:
- Satire is not a characteristic of a normal, free land, it is a characteristic of an extraordinary free land’.
- The need to laugh is a biological reaction to absurdities in life. It protects and acknowledges what is true. It will never disappear. In times of freedom it oozes out at prime time (….), in authoritarian times it slips away in underground rivers, in jests and jokes, nowadays on the Internet.
I think freedom is strong enough in the Western democracies. We have to be vigilant, the festering abces of right wing populism has reached the Halls of Shame, but we still can.
