Glad it worked with you, Tamyka! The photo really was the beginning of the writing process. With your prompt in my head and the idea of the fundamental truth in the 46 year old love for my wife -and the need to preserve that truth- I scanned my photo archives. And there she was on that blotched forest road, summer 2016. The rest of it will be familiar to every poet. There are some given elements and a first phrase and the intuition of rhythm, rhyme, clue. In this case there was this photo with feelings included. With a little bit of luck a composition develops. Sometimes the words evoke ideas, sometimes an idea evokes words.

After publication the process continues. The poem touches readers, or not. It lives on or it dies. If it is really good, it will live on forever. It is impossible to foresee what will happen.
