Thank you! We traveled from Seattle to San Francisco in 2009 via 112–101-Mount St Helens- Columbia River-Bonneville Dam-Mary Hill-Biggs Jct-Shaniko-John Day Fossil Beds-Clarno Unit-The Blue Basin-Picture Gorge-Painted Hills-Crooked River-372-Crater Lake-Bandon-101-Cape Blanco-El Norte County-Eureka-Ferndale-211-Petrolia-Eel River-Rockefeller Forest-Shelter Cove (The Lost Coast)-101-Mendocino- and enjoyed every part of the journey.
The Painted Hills are unforgettable. A perfect illustration of the geological process, a work of art in the style of Mendini produced by nature, silent witnesses of evolution theory. Quite a journey too. It was steaming hot while we walked around, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the valley. You know, it seems as if you see a group of giant monsters, asleep but may be awakening angrily from the slightest disturbance. Is that one hill moving?
O yes, don’t miss them. Take a large parasol and a tank of fresh water with you. And don’t wake them up!
