While writing this poem the people in the picture were on my mind, besides the many ways of touching and being touched, Robert Faron. I didn’t think about loss experienced by my readers, but I did think about the hope in the picture, hence the last words of the poem.

One of the greatest Dutch poets of the last century was Vasalis. She wrote this:

It is not the cut that hurts

it is being cut off
